  • Sunday Afternoon Drive

I took a drive around the country side and ended up at the Dakota Cemetary where some of my family is buried. One of the grave markers is of Chief Little Crow of the Mdewakantonwan Oyate (People of the Spirit Lake-Our Creation) anyways, he was the priciple Dakota chief of the 1862-1863 Dakota Conflict. His scalp, and some of his hand/wrist bones were put on display for many years at the Minnesota Historical Society in St. Paul Minnesota, he was returned to his family living here in Flandreau. Also a picture of my mothers grave in front of the chiefs grave. My last Great Uncle the Most Reverend Floyd Heminger a Dakota minister died last year, his last request was to be buried with tow of his older brothers and next to his Chief-4 time Great Grandfather Little Crow. His wishes were not honoured by his son. So, a niece of his a cousin to me, cut some of his hair during the over night wake and this early summer buried it properly and place a nice ground head stone there next to Little Crows grave. He'd have been pleased for this rememberance and honour.

I love this area of the river, to me it always looks so crisp and inviting.

How was your sunday spent Xanga Friends? I hope you all had a relaxed enjoyable day and you had peace.

  • Riverside Park Days- A Small town Midwest Event

Each year for the last 7 years we have had Riverside Park Days. It's a typical arts in the park affair, set along side the Big Sioux River and Flandreau City Park. One change to the event.....I'm the new Park Board Member! I've been wanting to get on this city board for ever and now it's happened. Below are some pictures of this years event. As many of you know my picture postings are random and make sense only to you the viewer. I hope you enjoy and can imagine yourself in a small town taking in one of our events and finding yourself in some rural peace, thinking of lazy lemonade days in smalltown South Dakota....peace to you all for the month of August 2009.

This is the STAGE and Characters involved in this Play of Adventure!

    From Seattle to Mt. Rainer.

I want to go back soon and spend another week there, so much left unseen, places to visit, streets to walk, eaterys yet to be discovered, ferries to ride and roads yet to travel.

This fall Alligent Air (sp) is supposed to be offereing $100, 1 way flights to New York City, this according to Jerry7171 and what he has heard through his connections, so we would be off for a quickie for two days. With prices that low it would be a repeat trip .

  • Native American from South Dakota, thats right! Here on the eastern prairies of South Dakota is where I live, surrounded by wild things, the states largest casino, 35 north of the states largest city which is Sioux Falls.
